I’m UBER excited to share this first shoot of the Princeton Styled wedding series! This Updike Farmstead wedding is giving me all the feels and I’m so happy it was such a great success! Myself and Danielle of Magnolia West Events came up with this concept for Princeton Weddings and we hit the ground running with it! Our first shoot of the series is this rustic meets Anthropologie boho wedding feel that has farm-to-table elements incorporated into it. The venue, Updike Farmstead is definitely a unique space.  One of the best things about Updike is that the property is all yours to utilize as you wish. Every bride that comes to this rustic Princeton venue can customize the space to their needs and vision – it’s like a blank canvas for you to work with!

This barn wedding featured gowns from Hayley Paige, Allure Bridals, and Pronovias.  I loved so many different aspects to each dress– they were perfect! A big Thank you to Castle Couture for providing these amazing dresses for our shoot!

The vendors involved in this shoot were so detail oriented – I especially loved the welcome station with small bites and lemonade and wine!  Emily’s Cafe and Catering made a sampling of incredibly delicious hors d’oeuvres to pair with local wines from Terhune Orchards. What is better than some small bites and a little lemonade in the summer?! YASS is all I have to say to that!

Danielle did an amazing job incorporating the boho-Anthropologie feel with heirloom vintage finds, mismatched rustic and modern furniture – all tied together with some amazing handmade details for the perfect Princeton barn wedding.

The rentals for this wedding were paired perfectly: the combination of the farm table with clear plexi ghost chairs from Vision Furniture allowed for the mostly wood interior of the barn to remain light and airy. The chairs (and dance floor) were accented perfectly thanks to Bombshell Graphics .  Accent lounge chairs with rustic cushions and bohemian pillows flanked the ends of the table for a nice added accent.

Place settings featured layered floral and glass plates with metallic gold accents, hand-painted water color menus and lemon place cards by Kel Made Goods, and mismatched water glasses. Kelly also made acrylic table numbers to tie into the ghost chairs. Votives added some romantic candlelight to the farm to table centerpieces that were arranged in a series of Anthropologie flower pots. 

I think my favorite part about this shoot is the the fruit, veggies, and flowers of our floral arrangements that brought to life the farm to table concept.
The veggies in the arrangements were such a unique detail and I especially loved the artichokes and lemons hiding in the florals. Hah!

Of course, you can never go wrong with a CREPE cake! Jammin’ crepes came through with an amazing 75 LAYER CREPE CAKE! It tasted amazing!

What are three unique features or facts about Updike Farmstead that may interest future brides?

     The Farmstead is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places and lies within the Princeton Battlefield/Stony Brook Settlement Historic District. The Farmstead is actually along the route followed by Continental troops on their way to engage British soldiers at Princeton Battlefield.  And of course, originally constructed in 1892, the barn has been recently renovated to be transformed into a premier event space.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How many guests can Updike accommodate for a wedding on the property? Just in the barn?

Updike Farmstead can accommodate up to 200 guests if a tent is added in the courtyard behind the barn. The barn itself can set up to 150 with a DJ only, and 125 guests comfortably with a dance floor and band. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Where do most Updike brides host their rehearsal dinners? Or where would you recommend they host them?

I like to recommend farm-to-table restaurants in Princeton. Two of my favorites are Agricola, which has a private room, and Jammin’ Crepes, which has a great casual “farm” vibe.  Both use local farms. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If an Updike bride was hosting a morning after brunch, where would you recommend they do it? 

I would suggest Cargot, on University Ave.  They have wonderful brunch, and the ambiance is lovely.  They also have indoor and outdoor seating.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Where do most Updike brides block rooms for hotels guests / stay the night before the wedding?

There are many hotels just off Route 1 in Princeton. There are also the Nassau Inn, the Peacock Inn, and Chauncey Conference Center and Hotel in Princeton as well. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Where are a few local “hotspots” you might recommend Updike Wedding guests staying in the area visit pre and post wedding festivities?

Since Princeton has so much history, I would recommend a walking tour with our own Historical Society of Princeton!  The University campus is absolutely beautiful and not to be missed. While there, I would recommend visiting the University Art Museum, which is one of the finest university art museums in the world.  Triumph Brewery on Nassau Street is a fun micro-brewery, and Mistral Restaurant is very popular restaurant recognized by its inventive small plates to share by award-winning chef Scott Anderson.  Shopping on Nassau Street and Palmer Square is also a must!
