Updike Farmstead Engagement Photos :: Megan and Jim
Megan and Jim were all smiles when we shot their classic fall engagement shoot at Updike Farmstead in Princeton…which is only appropriate, since bride to be Megan is currently in dentistry school!
Megan and Jim are super cute, funny, and sugary sweet together (without the cavities, of course!). In fact, as we went about our day together, they described themselves as “old souls”, and I couldn’t agree more. What I love about working with them, aside from how much fun we had, is they balance each other so well: Jim is practical, while Megan is logical. Mix that up with how adorable they are, and how much they truly enjoy spending time together (Megan is a fair distance away while finishing up dentistry school), and you see their love and personalities shine through in each and every image!
The day we met up at Updike Farmstead in Princeton to shoot, we couldn’t have asked for a better day: and their outfits were absolutely spot on. Megan began the day in a plaid blanket sweater from Francesca’s, with a cream top underneath from Bass, jeans from Express, and fringe booties by Vince Camuto. Her earrings by Kendra Scott tied it all together! I love when my groom to be coordinates so well with his special lady, and Jim most certainly did not disappoint. Jim chose a maroon sweater from Bass, jeans (from Lee), and a super snazzy watch from WeWood for his first outfit. When it came time to change things up a bit, both Megan and Jim switched only a few key pieces, yet just enough to get a different look for the remainder of our day. Megan’s green top came from J.Crew, and her booties were by Sonoma (available at Kohl’s), while Jim’s flannel was by Croft and Barrow (also available exclusively at Kohl’s).
I had so much fun shooting with Megan and Jim at Updike, and cannot wait to see her graduate from dentistry school and be there to capture their pearly whites on their wedding day!

How did you two meet?
Jim and I met at a fraternity party during college, five and a half years ago. Jim was having girl troubles and I gave him advice. I don’t remember what I said, but he thought I was spunky and tell it like it is.
I was seeing someone at the time, but we reconnected the following spring and have been inseparable since.
Describe your relationship in one sentence:
We share an unconditional love for one another and a friendship that is fun loving, romantic, and pure bliss.
Describe the proposal
Being long distance, I was planning on driving up to Jim’s house (3 hours) after I got done in the oral surgery clinic. I did not finish up at school until after 6, so I arrived to Jim house after 9pm. The house was dark, even though I had just gotten off the phone with him and knew he was home. I opened the door to find Jim on the floor. I thought, “Oh no! Jim has fallen in the dark and he is hurt” I had all my weekend bags slung over my arm and struggled to put them down and find a light. I was panicked. Suddenly the light came on and I saw he was down on one knee and was proposing! There we were in the doorway of our future home, in my scrubs and coffee stained sweatshirt. But it could not have been more perfect for us, spontaneous, intimate and heart felt. I came to find out later that Jim had an elaborate plan take me to watch the sunset on a mountain that we had been to on one of our first dates. Unfortunately my delayed scheduled ruined the plan since it was already dark. With the forecast saying rain the rest of the weekend, Jim’s plan wasn’t going to work and he said he was too excited and anxious to wait, so he improvised. That to me is the best part, that he couldn’t bear to wait another day.
What is your favorite thing about being engaged?
Megan: Dreaming of the future and shopping for our home together. Jim: Planning our lives together.
What are you most excited about for your wedding? (Vows, dances, party, etc.)
I think I am most excited for us to be together, married, surrounded by everyone that is most important to us and just soak up every minute of the day. Jim is most excited for the pigs in a blanket.
