Rock Island Lake Club Wedding
Lindsay and Sean
Where do I start with this wedding? Way back in high school when I first met Lindsay? How incredible Lindsay and Sean are together – and reminisce about their engagement shoot in Chicago? How they incorporated their dog into their wedding – but not in the way you would think? So much to say about this incredible couple and their amazing wedding at the Rock Island Lake Club! Read on to see their gorgeous shots, get all the answers to these burning questions, and more special tidbits…
Let me take you back for a moment to when I shot their engagement pics in Chicago, their current home while Sean is in graduate school (click here to check out the blog post). That weekend I had the chance to spend a couple of days with both of them, although I have known Lindsay since high school, where we played softball together. Lindsay was always a role model for me in high school as she is a focused, driven woman, with an incredible personality, and was one heck of a softball player. I also got to spend time that weekend getting to know Moose, their lovable Bernese Mountain dog, and everyone knows how I love my couples canine family members!
Fast forward to present day: this extraordinary couple, plus an event at Rock Island Lake Club (where weddings are nothing less then EPIC – especially their cocktail hour), and you get Lindsay and Sean’s big day! The Rock Island Lake Club is an amazing venue for an event, not just because of food and service, but because of how beautiful it is as well. I was able to capture how much in love Lindsay and Sean are, how much they support each other, how much fun they have together, and basically how awesome they are together, throughout the grounds of the Rock Island Lake Club, and the images are simply stunning.
I love incorporating special touches into big days, as well as pets- and when I saw what Lindsay and Sean did…..swoon! Moose, Lindsay and Sean’s Bernese Mountain dog, was made a part of their wedding in not one, but two ways: his image was on straws used throughout the evening, and they incorporated him into the drink menu! The “Moose-cow”mule was named for him!
Lindsay and Sean are exceptional; as I mentioned earlier, I have known Lindsay for years, and have admired her for her focus and drive. Sean has that same focus and drive, and is truly dedicated to his profession, as he is currently in grad school for it right now. Lindsay moved from Boston to join Sean in Chicago while he attends school, hence the engagement session.
I am so excited to see what the future holds for these two as they are incredible together. Fun, focused, driven, and they love to have a great time together! Oh, and extra fun fact: Lindsay graduated with my fiance, Rob, who happened to be my assistant the day of the wedding. Thank you both for giving me (and Rob, the assistant, lol) the opportunity to be a part of your special day! I am blessed beyond measure to have you both in my life after all these years and can’t wait to see what is in store for you both in the years ahead! #SMITHTHISRING

Sean and I met at work in 2012 but it wasn’t until the following year that we fell in love. We worked in the same department and coincidentally (or by fate) sat next to each other. We were both in other relationships at the time and seldom interacted – occasionally saying good morning or asking a work question, but mostly just bumping into each other on the way to and from the printer. Sean was in a corporate rotational program at the time and after 8 months of working together, he moved to a new department and we saw even less of each other.
Late summer 2013, I was newly single and had just moved to Boston from the suburbs. I was on my way to the gym after work and looked up to see Sean holding the door for me. We caught up on the way down to the locker rooms, and talked more in those few minutes than we ever did at work! He definitely caught my interest and I remember thinking how cute he was too. After that, we continued to see each other around the office and in the city and eventually Sean asked me out. What was supposed to be a brunch date turned into an all day affair with us spending the entire day together. Needless to say, we fell in love, moved in together, got our dog Moose, and here we are 5 years later as newlyweds!
We loved every moment of our wedding day but what sticks out the most to both of us is reading our vows, which we hand wrote. I had practiced to myself so many times but as soon as I opened my mouth to start reading and made eye contact with Sean I totally lost it. It just such an emotional moment to be be sharing our feelings and promises with one another in front of our closest friends and family.
Everything about Rock Island Lake Club was exactly what we were looking for. We didn’t want the traditional ballroom feel, nor did we want a totally outdoor wedding day. Rock Island was the perfect venue – it had a beautiful outdoor ceremony spot and a modern, indoor reception room with lots of deck space. The staff there is AMAZING and everyone was so nice and easy to work with, from our coordinator, to the maitre’d, to the waitstaff. Not to mention they have the most insane cocktail hour and all the food is ridiculously good.
Just enjoy it! It’s so easy to get swept up in all of the details and give in to the pressure of planning a “perfect” wedding. In reality, something is bound to go wrong along the way. But at the end of the day what truly matters is you are marrying the love of your life – the rest is just a big party!
